Ginger Green Smoothie

nurse-ginger-green-smoothieWe spent two weeks in New York City this past summer and it was wonderful to have easy access to healthy eating and drinking options. We stayed near our favorite grocery store Wholefoods, juice bars, plenty of restaurants with healthy gluten-free options and local and seasonal produce. Coming out of Asia NYC is a healthy food lover’s paradise!

One of my favorite breakfasts during our trip was the Nurse Ginger Greene smoothie from Juice Press. A tad bit sweet but loaded with greens and a serious ginger kick. Loved it and re-created it the moment I got back to Manila. My morning green smoothies are typically less sweet but this continues to be a favorite for an occasional mid afternoon pick-me-up.

Ingredients:

(serves 1)

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 date (pitted)
  • 1/2 green apple
  • 1 handful of baby spinach
  • 1 handful of kale
  • knob of ginger, peeled (see how much you can handle!)
  • squeeze of lemon
  • 1 tbsp of clean protein powder (such as collagen peptides, pea protein, hemp protein, grass fed whey protein)
  • coconut water
  • Preparation:

Preparation:

  • Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth
  • Enjoy!
