5 Things I am Loving Right Now

1. Inspiration

Let’s face it. We all need a little nudge every now and again. Something that reminds us of the bigger picture, that takes us out of our slumber and back into life with a capital L. Tiny Buddha aims to do that. I might not have time to read all my mails but I do make it a point to read theirs. Some speak to me more then others but all of them make me pause and reflect.

2. Home Made Mayo

Since we moved to India I have not been able to find a “clean”, healthy, good tasting, artificial flavor – and color-free, high fructose corn syrup -free mayonnaise.  Until I learned how to make it at home: 5 ingredients, all healthy, delicious in taste and all that is required are a blender and some patience! Welcome back creamy salad dressings and home made tuna sandwiches!

3. Home grown herbs

It was one of the first things I did when we moved in to our apartment: plant some seeds. We have the tiniest of balconies but I made space for some basil, thyme, parsley, rosemary and lavender and I love watching them grow. Last weekend, we enjoyed our first herbs with a late breakfast made with fried eggs, sliced tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and topped with crumbled feta and extremely flavorful homegrown balcony basil leaves.  Yum!

If you don’t know where to start, Aussie Wellness Warrior Jess Ainscough just finished a series of blogs on how to start your own organic garden. Check it out here.

4.    A good laugh

The idea here is not to take yourself too seriously. Laugh a little! This article sure did it for me. (Thank you, Hema!) If you have ever been to Whole Foods (or any other health food store really) this will have you in splits.

Enjoy!

5.    Water Kefir

The way we feel, our total health, is directly linked to the health of our digestive system. Fermented foods such as yoghurt, pickled vegetables and kefir add healthy bacteria to our gut that help maintain a strong digestion. My latest favorite fermented food is water kefir. I add kefir grains to water sweetened with jaggery and let it ferment for 24 hours after which I remove the grains, add slices of ginger and fresh juice. Another 12 hours later I have a delicious fizzy drink that is sooo good for me.

I bought my kefir grains from Amazon USA and they survived the long journey to India pretty well. It took about 2 batches to “revive” them.
