Rich and creamy with a perfect combination of cherries and almonds and a touch of chocolate. This one passed the picky test: I can serve it to my boys any time of the day. And it’s healthy to boot.
(makes 1 large smoothie)
Ingredients:
- ½ cup fresh pitted cherries (or frozen)
- 1 tbsp almond butter *
- 1 banana
- ½ cup almond milk **
- ¼ tsp pure vanilla essence
- 1 tsp ground flax seeds
- 1 tbsp unsweetened chocolate powder
- 2 pitted dates
- 4 Ice cubes
Preparation:
- Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth.
- Serve immediately
* To make your own almond butter:
Heat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Spread out 1 cup of raw almonds on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Roast for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. Place the roasted almonds in a food processor with a pinch of salt and process until you have smooth and creamy almond butter.
** To make your own almond milk:
Soak 1 cup of almonds overnight. Rinse and remove the skins. Place in a blender with 2 ½ cups of water and blend until smooth. Run through a clean kitchen towel into a glass jar and squeeze out all the milk. Refrigerate until ready to use in smoothies, with cereal or in chai.
