A while back we stayed at our friends’ house in Dubai and at some stage the topic of skin care came up. Our friend Ashita, who has fabulous skin, told us about her homemade face scrub. The next morning we were all walking around the house with a layer of brown “dal” on our faces, kids included. I have been using it ever since and it does leave my skin feeling super smooth whenever I use it. All natural, no harmful ingredients and easy to make.
Ingredients:
Equal amounts of:
- Chana dal
- Urad dal
- Sandalwood powder
- Non-polished rice
- Green moong dal
(These ingredients should be available at your local Indian grocery store for those of you that don’t live in India)
Preparation:
- Place all the ingredients in a food processor (or coffee grinder) and process to a powder. Run through a mesh sieve to remove pieces.
- Mix 2 tbsp of the powder with:
Full cream milk (for dry skin)
Yoghurt (for oily skin)
+
1 tsp of rose water (optional)
- Apply on face, avoiding the sensitive area around the eyes and let it dry for 5 minutes before gently scrubbing off
