“The solution to resolving your health challenges as is unique as you are, requires a root cause approach and a process that involves tracking and adjusting.”
Imagine stepping out of bed every morning after a night of sound sleep, with a well-functioning body, plenty of physical and mental energy and resilience to meet the daily demands of life, a clear and focused mind, balanced moods and a general sense of joy.
That, to me, is what optimal health feels like.
It’s easy to take for granted. Abuse it even. Until you start experiencing chronic sleep issues, mood swings, allergies, fluctuating energy levels, back pain, digestive distress or brain fog and realise you’ll do anything to get your body back to happily humming along like it used to.
Unfortunately, by the time this complex network of biological systems called your body is so out of balance that symptoms have shown up, it can be tough to figure out how to restore health. Brain fog may need gut healing, sleep issues may require blood sugar balancing, nutrient repletion or enhanced absorption and low energy may require mitochondrial support. But this is not how we were taught to think: we were taught to treat symptoms, pop some pills and in many cases learn to accept our fate.
I still remember the frustration I felt when I sat across yet another doctor who was happy to prescribe medicine but could not explain why my skin was breaking out, I couldn’t fall asleep at night, had to drag myself out of bed in the morning, suffered from horrible stomach cramps and mood swings.
I ended up taking matters into my own hands. Figuring it out wasn’t easy or quick but I was lucky enough to have my husband’s support and time to invest in educating myself and finding solutions.
In hindsight, my entire life’s journey had resulted in the unique expression of bio-individual health challenges: the multiple courses of antibiotics I received for ear infections as a child, the birth control pill I took for teenage acne, a quick succession of two pretty severe episodes of acute gastroenteritis during my first year of living in India, genetic mutations in areas involving digestion and methylation, frequent global travel, and more. In order to optimise my own health, I needed to restore balance in the various areas that had been compromised, treat underlying lingering infections, support my genetic make-up with targeted foods and supplements and lifestyle habits.
During the long process of rebalancing my health I had three big revelations:
- The solution to resolving health challenges as is unique as you are.
- The solution to resolving health challenges requires a root cause approach
- The solution to resolving health challenges is a process that involves tracking and adjusting.
The conventional medical system provides generalised care, symptom management and one-off interventions. In other words: the complete opposite of what is required to resolve chronic health issues.
Fortunately, I stumbled upon the world of functional medicine and nutrition at some point in my journey and fell head over heels in love with this holistic, root cause, personalised approach to wellness. So much so that I continued my education, culminating in a master’s degree in Personalised Nutrition, which allows me to help myself and others to optimise health in a way that is effective and lasting.
Here’s my heartfelt advice to you: if you are struggling with chronic health issues that are affecting your ability to feel and be your optimal best and if you are overwhelmed with the (often conflicting) information that is out there, or if you are still working with someone who only treats your symptoms, refuses to dig deeper to uncover underlying imbalances, does not support you on an on-going basis with the implementation, tracking and fine-tuning of diet and lifestyle changes, RUN. You deserve better. And better is out there. I can vouch for that. I see the tremendous changes that take place every day in my clients who are learning to eat and live in a manner that restores their underlying imbalances and supports their bioindividuality.
That is how you resolve bloating, afternoon slumps, a growing waistline or any other nagging issues.
