With readers from different parts of the world I am always aware of how what is seasonal to me, may be totally wrong for others. Like this frappucino. Things have started heating up here in Mumbai again. Not that it ever really gets cold, but we like to believe we have some sort of “winter” that lasts all of 2 months during which the temperature drops to a terrifying low of 15 degrees Celsius at times. Well, those days seem to be over. It’s back to 38 and time to switch to cooling drinks. So forgive me if you are still freezing in your corner. Please save this recipe for later and do a turmeric latte instead!
If you are feeling the heat, looking for a healthy, home-made, dairy-free, Paleo approved alternative to Starbucks to cool you down: here you go.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee (regular or decaf)
- 1/4 cup thick coconut milk (canned works well)
- 1 small ripe banana*
- 1/4 tsp vanilla bean powder
- 1 tsp unsweetened cacao powder
- 4 cubes of ice (and some more to serve)
Preparation:
- Place the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
- Pour into a tall glass filled with ice cubes
* one banana and some vanilla bean powder provides all the sweetness I need (which is considerably less than the Starbucks variety) but you can add honey to taste if required
