Why Should You Work With a Functional Nutritionist?

When I tell people that I am a functional nutritionist, most of the time the response is: “oh! I need to lose weight, I should work with you!” To which my response usually is: I’ll work with you if your goal is to be the healthiest you can be so that you can live your best life.

I help restore health. And by doing so everything else falls into place. Including weight. And energy, focus, balanced moods, joy, and happiness. Rather than to put you on a quick fix weight loss diet, my work revolves around helping you understand what your body needs to thrive.

Truth be told, this is not always an easy feat. Most of us are out of balance, uprooted, confused, bombarded with negative influences, and overloaded with conflicting messages.

Just take a look around and see if you can find anyone who is perfectly healthy. And if they say they are, dig a little deeper and you will find there likely is some nagging issue here or there. Like mood swings, headaches, constipation, pain somewhere, a stubborn rash, bloating after meals or suboptimal sleep – issues that indicate some underlying imbalance. Sadly, most of us have come to accept such issues as normal. Being in tip top shape is no longer the norm.

Working with me or someone like me is an opportunity to take a step back and together with an expert examine what is out of balance and find out what YOU need to correct these imbalances. Think of it as working with a consultant to help you restructure your (body-mind) business. First we do a detailed assessment of the current state of affairs, goals and objectives, a strengths/weaknesses/opportunities/threats (SWOT) analysis, followed by a tailor-made diet and lifestyle strategy.

And then we proceed to use targeted and personalized nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle interventions to dial down inflammation, boost your gut health and restore balance in your microbiome. We ensure you flood your body with nutrients, we optimize mitochondrial function, support detoxification, balance your hormones and cardiovascular health. We aim to optimize all the biological systems that are inter-connected and together define how you feel and function.

We take out the factors that negatively impact you and we bring in more of the factors that positively impact your health. We track the ripple effect of this on your energy, moods, digestion, sleep, brain function. We may do some advanced testing to help target and fine tune the approach. All until you wake up one morning and realize: I feel great and I know exactly what to do to maintain this.
