This deliciously creamy, dreamy latte is more like an elixer than a regular drink. Turmeric, also known as “Queen of Spices” has some serious healing powers. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-carcinogenic and detoxifying properties. With the added benefit of ginger (another powerful root) this latte will help boost your immune system, improve your digestion and warm you up from the inside out. Perfect for this time of the year!
Ingredients:
(serves 1)
- 1 cup almond milk or coconut milk
- 1 heaped tbsp freshly grated turmeric root (or 2 tsp turmeric paste*)
- 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger root (or 1/2 tsp ginger powder)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/8 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp honey (or to taste)
Preparation:
- Place the milk in the pan with the turmeric, ginger, cardamom powder and coconut oil and heat to a gentle simmer
- Remove from the fire and add the honey
- Transfer to a blender and blend until frothy
- Pour into a large mug, sprinkle with extra cinnamon and enjoy!
* to make turmeric paste, combine 2 parts of turmeric powder with 1 part boiling water. You can store this in the fridge for up to 5 days. Tip: use this paste to add to smoothies for an anti-oxidant boost
